Getting started with a zero waste lifestyle
Do you want to cut down on waste and make steps towards a more sustainable lifestyle? Many of us do but don’t know where to start. There are zerowaste shops a plenty but maybe you are not sure how they work or what they do, whats wrong with the supermarket?
Then there are all the questions about the products. Then don’t come in shiny super branded amazing looking packaging covered in labels with that ‘look’ we trust. The irony is that those companies are less likely to be upfront. They know they can rely on their strong forever brand. Do they need ethics and morals as well to make money?
Room for us and them
Companies are changing. There will still be the nay sayers in the Zero waste community slating them but for us small steps are a positive move – it raises awareness to the masses. Garnier have started doing some brilliant things with their products from shampoo bars to compostable face masks. When a major player like Tesco makes a small change we need to consider the enormity of this change not slate them for only do one thing. For example if they were to remove all the plastic wrap from their multi pack deals that is one hell of alot of wrap globally throughout their stores. There is a place for the market leaders if they are prepared to make change but equally small businesses like ours are making changes from the ground up. There is room for both of us.

Household refills
What do we mean by household refills? We band this about alot in our newsletter and our social media posts. Until someone asked me the other day it hadn’t occurred to me that people maybe didn’t know what this meant.
A refil is purely the act of refilling an empty bottle with a new product. Household refers to our range of household products that we can dispense for you. This includes products such as washing up liquid, all purpose cleaner, dishwasher powder, body wash and handsoap.
Why use empty bottles? The point of No Waste Living is that it supplies goods with little environmental impact. Our customers donate containers they have used and we wash them and refill here. This means we are delaying those bottles going to recycling or landfill. We are getting quite a good collection together now and with our regular customers returning the containers when we deliver their next order – we are well on our way to creating our own circular economy.
What size can I buy? We offer the main products in 1.5 litres or 5 litres as a bulk option. There is a discount for the 5 litres options. We also have subscriptions available and these are offered in 500ml / 1 litre / 1.5 litres. For a subscription you can choose a time frame from every week up to every other month. The containers we use and the ones we look to be donated are the above sizes so we can be consistent with our pricing.
Trialing the products
We have created a range of household refills that you can now trial for less pennies. With all the above in mind we thought being able to dip your toe in the water would suit those that are unsure about how it all works.
The cost is low too – because we use second hand containers you only pay for the cost of the product not the packaging. You can trial most of these for as little as 50p.
We do ask that you return the bottles once you have tried the product so others can trial them as well. We have built up a collection of matching bottles to make it all look more familiar to consumers but we can only save up so many as we need to wait for the original product to be used.
You can return the bottles by leaving them on your doorstep for us to collect on our delivery days. If you have enjoyed the products and put in an order for the full size options we will collect them when we deliver your new order. If the products were not for you just let us know via email and we will collect them on our nearest delivery day.
